A1 – Feedback and reflection

The photographs supplied for the project express some good observations and visual
qualities.

The overall comments from my tutor I was happy with. As I had not planned to use the photographs I submitted originally, I thought it was a bit rushed and not executed as I would have liked. I feel as though I just worked with the photographs I had.

Choice of subject matter works well, but perhaps given the requirements of the two
sides element; the sequence might have benefited from creating imagery earlier before the birth room. This might not have been possible, it’s worth thinking how you might be able to use existing photographs to draw out the narrative.

I agree with this. If I had thought more about the possibility of submitting these photographs I would have taken images before the birth room as the first side of the story. When I looked through the images, this is when I decided to use them for this assignment, I did think about capturing my sister after having the baby. This would include images of her at home. This would then provide more of a narrative showing two sides of her story. However, due to being on lockdown because of COVID-19, this was not possible.

I will definitely think more about using existing photographs to draw out the narrative. I plan on putting together different sequences and looing over them for a few days before deciding my final series.

There is some good framing and use of depth of field in the compositions.

Throughout my EYV unit, I received this comment a lot in my reports. Although I am happy to receive this positive feedback, I am now feeling as though this is all my work has to offer. I want a lot more out of my photographs, I am just not sure what yet!

The connection between machine and human and the later connecting to human flesh is well observed and might form one of the strongest elements, it worth thinking some more on how your own perspective of ‘emotion’ relates to the images overall.

I am not quite sure what is meant by my own perspective of ’emotion’ or how I would show this. I will discus this further with my tutor.

Developing and adding the research will help as your progress, there needs to be some mare data here with continued visual illustrations where possible.

I spoke about this with my tutor on our video meeting. He suggested a scrapbook/notebook where I can write all my ideas, planning and images. I have decided to take this onboard and start one for assignment 2. I am very much a visual person, so seeing my ideas on paper will really help.
